Friday, May 31 – Monday, September 3, 2007
Not willing to aim low, the first Conference called on organizers, writers, artists, journalists, teachers, architects and dreamers from all cultures to join in planning a new society based on mutual respect, alternative education, and democratic expression. Panels and workshops focused on teaching and writing for survival; Southwest culture and society; cultural memory; regional activism; investigative journalism; culture and architecture; creating a people’s almanac; poets and artists for peace and justice; and politics, culture, and the new. Writing workshops were offered Sunday.
